Yes, that is the plane's shadow on the upward smoke trail. I am particularly irritated by this one because I saw it happen earlier in the day and missed the shot but still managed to balls up this second chance. At the time I can remember thinking, "Hell, I saw that which means the film didn't" but had been hoping I took it just a fraction of a second later than this.
It's pretty rough, you must admit: the only possible advantage of staring into the sun all afternoon and I missed it!
