Sunken Rock Church in Helsinki

Easily the most impressive modern church I've seen, the Temppeliaukion kirkko is carved into the ground in the town centre. Apparently a series of competitions to design this place were rejected (even after public vote), thwarted by the outbreak of war or simply too expensive until this design arrived on town planners' desks sometime in the late 20th century. The best part, other than the crazy
Thunderbirds style raised gallery, is that it just looks like a nature reserve and small dome from
above.
